About Me

Hey there, my name is Mike and I guess you want to know more about me… I’m a technology consultant living in the fabulous burbs of Durham, North Carolina. Originally from Houston, my wife and I lived in Boston  for 5 years and decided to split the difference and move here. I’ve been saying to myself for a long time that whenever I have some random thought I find interesting, “I need to write that down.” Well now I am doing just that since I’ve lost too many things to poor memory.

This is more of a way to catalog my thoughts and my accomplishments than a way to make an online destination. Although this runs counter to the ethos I maintain as a consultant, I think it’s an important part of living a digital life. In the business world, or for those who hope to distinguish themselves through blogging, specialization is the key. You want to maintain a narrow focus for your posts so visitors know exactly what they are going to get from your site whether by visiting the site directly, subscribing to posts via email, or subscribing to an RSS feed. There are so many sources for information on the web that specialization is the ONLY way to carve out a niche and garner followers. Well… that’s not what I’m trying to do here.

This blog is my attempt to pull together the disparate destinations for my life (Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, etc, etc) into a central location. I know, I know…. there are services like Friendfeed that already do this. These services, however, require membership. I don’t want to require someone interested in what I’m doing, be they friends or family, to have to surrender personal information and remember yet another password. Wordpress provides great tools for aggregating content from these sites, so that’s why I’m here. Not only that, but Wordpress is built on PHP, a language I’m still learning. This siet will change appearance and functionality frequently (and may occasionally break) as I test out new techniques.

Still interested in hanging out? Great, why not subscribe.

Talk to you soon,
